The task for the morning was to cut back the belt of Rhododendron towards the A149. A strip of Rhododendron alongside the road will be retained to reduce pollution from the road and provide a physical barrier along the fence. The cut material was left to dry out before being burnt. At the end of the session, Nathan from Natural England showed that on the area of Heather, cleared of pine by the group previously, the wardens had cut wide paths through to allow new Heather to grow, with more prolific flowers for insect nectar and providing a fire break. Nathan at the end of the session thanked the volunteers for their considerable effort.
