GVCG volunteers met at Dersingham Common on the 28.02.22. Alex from Dersingham United Charities said that the task for the morning was to transfer gorse that had been cut by the contractor, Karl, to a fire that had been started earlier. The cut stems had been treated with a herbicide, to prevent any further growth. The members carried bundles of the gorse by hand and by hay fork to the fire then finally the area was raked to clear any remaining brash and these carried to the fire. By the end of the morning all the cut gorse had been cleared and burnt except for a limited number of bushes of Western Gorse which had been left intact as this is a rare species in the East of the country. In addition, selected Silver Birch saplings in the surrounding area were cut down to ground level and burnt. At the end of the morning Alex thanked all the members for their assistance.
