Volunteers met at Holme Dunes. Jenny from NWT said the task was to cut down Buckthorn on a bank on the Lavender Marsh. The Buckthorn was within a fenced area to provide a safe site for ground nesting birds such as the Ringed Plover, LittleTern, Oystercatcher and Curlew. The Buckthorn plants were relatively young so that the stem could be cut by loppers. The cut bushes were piled together for later burning while the remaining cut stems were treated to stop regrowth. Seen on the site was a Natterjack Toad, and a few fungi found by Sue and later identified by Jenny, while in the distance a Chinese Water deer was seen briefly, five Little Egret, numerous Linnets, a Marsh Harrier and three Curlew. Besides grass on the sand dunes, the flat land that was regularly inundated by the sea was covered by salt tolerant species identified by Sue as Samphire and Sea Purslane.
